Political Views
To preface these views, I will say that I understand that due to our differences, some reading the following will immediately bristle at what is said. Rather than letting that immediate emotional reaction overtake you, I would challenge you to try to accept that what I say is in good faith, comes from a place of compassion, and comes from someone that once thought differently on some of these topics. While of course there are views I will absolutely not budge on- If we're in the same class, I would challenge you to find the things we have in common- a lot of the problems going on affect you and I in the same way. Structures of power want to take forms of both of our rights and opportunities away- and they're laughing at us while we fight in their shadow.
Ideally, and admittedly a work in progress- I am committed to fighting normative violence, fascism, colonialism, and racial supremacy in all of its forms. To question and work to replace the capitalist structure and its abusive scripts about human worth in relation to work, productivity, and ownership. To subvert oppressive gender norms and put in question the binary. To actively unlearn biased and colonial thinking.
I am aggressively opposed to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, nationalism, ethnocentrism, religious fundamentalism, and oppressive and coercive power structures of all kinds.
One often has to participate in a capitalist society to be able to support themselves while fighting to reduce its harms and pave a way forward to something new. However, the oft-repeated statement "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" is not a free pass to abandon all principles and action. Do what you can, where you can.
