Disabling the LED in a Fiio E10K DAC/AMP

E10K-min

If, like me, you're sick of the bright blue LED on the front (that also leaks through the dial area, thus being difficult to block externally with paint, tape, or LED 'taming' stickers), you can easily address this with minimal effort by opening up the E10K with these steps:

At this point, you have a few options, but I found electrical tape to cover the LED to be a highly effective + minimal effort option that is reversible. My coverage wasn't 100% perfect (yours can be) but I blocked probably about 95% of the light.

Now I have get very close to the device and look in the gap beside the volume knob to see any light and what I can see is an extremely faint reflection of the LED internal to the device.

This wasn't initially intentional but turned out to be a desired result, because it's not visible in regular usage, but technically still is (dimly) visible as an indicator (when viewed closely) of the device receiving power / being actually turned on for any future troubleshooting.
